Rainy Weather Across the Country Means Driving Smart with Caution
Carolina International Trucks has been providing solutions for the trucking industry since 1992. During dangerous, inclement weather conditions, even the best-maintained equipment can end up in an accident.
It is the responsibility of the drivers and fleet managers to keep in mind that there is a regulation requiring reduced speeds or total shut down during unsafe, weather conditions. Part 392 found on e-CFR (Electronic Code of Federal Regulations), section 392.14 gives federal guidance for commercial vehicles to follow during inclement weather conditions. Note the direct quote from part of section 392.14.
"Extreme caution in the operation of a commercial motor vehicle shall be exercised when hazardous conditions, such as those caused by snow, ice, sleet, fog, mist, rain, dust, or smoke, adversely affect visibility or traction. Speed shall be reduced when such conditions exist. If conditions become sufficiently dangerous, the operation of the commercial motor vehicle shall be discontinued and shall not be resumed until the commercial motor vehicle can be safely operated."
In one of our recently posted blogs, weather conditions were briefly mentioned. The rain was noted to be the worst weather condition to cause accidents. Is it because rain doesn't appear to be as hazardous as snow and ice? It's not always the truck drivers causing the accidents, and we all need to take extra precaution during rainy conditions.
