Mitsubishi Fuso Plans to Develop New All-Electric Garbage Truck
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp recently announced a new partnership with Kawasaki City and ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. to produce the world's first light-duty, all-electric waste collection vehicle. The agreement will focus on the companies collaborating to develop a garbage truck series that can operate quietly and produce zero local emissions. Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp is the biggest manufacturer of commercial vehicles, while ShinMaywa is the leading manufacturer of waste collection vehicles.
The new trucks will be based on the designs for the eCanter, the first all-electric vehicle that was released in 2017. The eCanter is a good choice because it has the same load capacity as traditional garbage trucks that are on the market. The truck also doesn't make as much noise as traditional trucks and is cost efficient due to its lower maintenance costs.
Kawasaki City, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp and ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. plan to test the prototype's performance in 2019. When the eCanter waste collection is completed it will be the first all-electric garbage truck that does not emit carbon dioxide through the drivetrain. Cities who plan to adopt the truck will be making strides in creating a more sustainable urban environment.
