International Launches New RH Series
On Thursday, April 20, International launched its new RH Series Class 8 regional haul tractor. It becomes the first model to feature the new Navistar 12.4 L A26 engine as standard equipment. All RH Series trucks also come standard with Bendix Wingman Advanced Collision Mitigation.
The RH Series debuted at Montreal’s ExpoCam, and International will start taking orders in May. It replaces the TranStar 107 and the ProStar 113-in BBC models.
Amenities and Improvements
International’s new RH Series trucks offer key features:
- Decreased wind noise
- Improved side visibility
- Swept-back windshield
- Sloped hood for better visibility
- Turning radius of only 27-ft 10-in
- Single canister after-treatment system 60 percent smaller
- Overall drivetrain and aerodynamic enhancements will improve fuel economy by up to six percent. A new premium digital gauge cluster includes as many as 15 customizable gauges. Driver input yielded a return of the air horn to its traditional position above the driver door.
Serviceability
Important service points are ergonomically designed for easier access and quicker servicing. Many components have been improved to allow for long service intervals. All wiring features new harnessing. The power distribution module is inside the vehicle away from the elements.
The RH Series comes in these configurations:
- 56-inch low roof sleeper
- 56-inch hi-rise sleeper
- 56-inch hi-rise sleeper with roof fairing
- Day cab with roof fairing
Denny Mooney, Navistar’s Senior Vice President for Product Development, says “the RH Series is the most driver-centric Class 8 regional haul vehicle we've ever built.” He suggests new user-friendly features will help fleets attract and retain drivers.
