The aerodynamic styling of the feature-rich LT series of International trucks stands in stark contrast to the styling of predecessor vehicles designed and manufactured over a century ago. Today’s Navistar International Corp. emerged from what was the International Harvester Company (IH). A 1902 merger of Deering Harvester Company and McCormick Harvesting Machine Company created IH.

From the Farmall to the M-series

Clearly, IH has a distinctly agricultural heritage. Its Farmall tractor arrived in 1923, and by the 1940s it was the best-selling tractor in the country. However, as the decades unfolded, the manufacturer diversified its offerings to include trucks, buses and construction equipment. Its M-series of military trucks contributed to the war effort during WWII. The Navy and the Marines used the M-series in cargo transport, light artillery movement and weapons transport. To this day, Navistar Defense manufactures vehicles for the U.S. Military.

Today, more than a century since the creation of IH, the company manufactures some of the most advanced semi-trucks and other commercial vehicles on the road, including the new LT Series.

In 2016, Navistar International reported sales of $8.11 billion. The company, based in Lisle, Illinois, employs 12,315 individuals. It uses almost a thousand dealer outlets to deliver products, parts and services to customers in 90 countries.
